DIRECTOR PLAYER ERROR

If you receive a "Qt or AVI movie d:\support\contents\signdox\intro.mov could not be opened" message, please follow these instructions:

This error normally appears at startup when George is supposed to appear. If you receive this exact error message, you will need to delete older Quicktime for Windows files from your Windows\system directory. To do this go into File Manager in Windows. Do a Search by going to File and down to Search. Search for q*.* and start from C:\ (hit enter). Once the search is complete go up to View and go down to All File Details. This will show you all the file dates. Wyatt Earp uses QuickTime files from January 11, 1994. The files load from a directory called QTW. If you see that you have some of the same QuickTime for Windows files in the Windows\system directory as you do in Wyatt's QTW directory, but from much earlier dates, you need to delete the Quicktime files from the Windows\system directory to solve this problem. If you feel uncomfortable deleting these files, you may want to first copy them on to a floppy disk by highlighting the files with your mouse and selecting File, Copy. Select a: as the place to copy the files to. To delete a particular file, click it once with your mouse so it highlights and go to File and scroll to Delete. OK the question posed by Windows about deleting the file.

VIDEO DRIVER CONFLICTS

If you receive an error message regarding 24-bit color at start up with the ATI mach 64 video card, pleae follow these instructions:

To correct this disable the Winswitch through the ATI desktop. Adding the line Devicebitmap=off to the [macx] section of the system.ini file as outlined in the ATI MACH 64 DRIVER FIX will not necessarily correct this problem.

GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT IN MODULE GDI.EXE

If you are getting a general protection fault in this module and are using an ATI mach 64 video card, follow the instructions outlined in the ATI MACH 64 DRIVER FIX. Modifying the system.ini file according to the ATI Mach 64 Driver Fix will eliminate the general protection fault in module gdi.exe with Wyatt Earp's Old West.

GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT IN MODULE CXITL.DRV

If you are receive a general protection fault in module cxitl.drv, this is related to a conflict with your Trident video card. You can switch to a generic SVGA (256 color) video driver to test this theory of a video driver conflict, or you can use the settings listed below in the QTW.INI file:

Optimize=BMP

For more information on the QTW.INI file, see MODIFYING QUICKTIME FILES.

CALL TO UNDEFINED DYNALINK MESSAGE

If you are getting the "call to undefined dynalink" error message it is caused by having conflicting versions of QuickTime on your system. This error will normally pop up when "George" tries to come up at the signpost in Wyatt Earp's Old West. Deleting the directory QTW which is installed with Wyatt Earp's Old West from your hard drive should eliminate this error. If deleting the directory does not help, see our more detailed instructions for the error ERROR LINK.

QT INITIALIZATION FAILED MESSAGE

If you get an error message that states QT Initialization Failed, there are a few possible causes for this QuickTime-related related error message. The causes include the following:

  • Type REM followed by a space at the beginning of the EMM386 line.
  • Exit the editor by selecting Exit from File Menu.

You will be prompted to save the changes made to the file. Answer Yes. Restart your computer.

The directory QTW may not be in your path statement contained in your autoexec.bat file. To check if you have QTW in your path statement follow the procedure, below:

  • Exit Windows.
  • Type C:\ (hit enter).
  • Type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT (hit enter).
