Making Modifications to the QTW.INI file

When using QuickTime, you may have to adjust QuickTime to your system. You can do this by modifying the QTW.INI file. In order to do this, please do the following.

  • Exit Windows.
  • Type cd\Windows (hit enter).
  • Type Edit QTW.INI (hit enter).
  • Now you want to save the file under a new name. Click File, then Save As. Type QTW.OLD as the new file name. Click OK.
  • Click File, then New. This will give you an untitled page.
  • Type the following two lines.

    [Video]
    Optimize=Driver

  • The word driver can also be changed to BMP, Hardware, RAW, and DIB. If Driver does not work, try another setting.
  • Save the file by clicking File, then Save As. Type QTW.INI as the file name. It should ask you if you want to replace the existing file. Click Yes.
  • Exit by clicking File then Exit. Restart Windows.

    * Packard Bell owners - use the setting BMP instead of Driver. * Trident CXI video card owners - use the setting BMP instead of Driver.
