Will the 1999 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia (GME99) work with Windows NT?

Yes, the GME99 will work with Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows 98, 95, 3.1, and 3.11.

How do I install the GME99?

Windows 98, 95, and NT 4.0 Workstation:

If the AutoPlay feature is enabled on your computer, the installation program should automatically launch when you insert the 1999 GME CD-ROM into your drive. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue the installation.

If the AutoPlay feature is disabled, the installation program will not begin automatically. To install GME99, click the Start button on the Taskbar, go up to Run, and type D:\SETUP.EXE (assuming D is your CD-ROM drive letter) and press the Enter key.

To run GME99, do the following: Select Programs from the Start menu on the Taskbar. Then, choose Grolier Interactive, move over to select the 1999 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, and then click the 1999 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia icon to start the program. Once the program loads and comes to the title screen, click on Start or one of the other options to begin.

Windows 3.x:

  1. Select Run from the File menu in Program Manager.
  2. Type D:\SETUP (assuming D is your CD-ROM drive letter) and press Enter.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Double-click the 1999 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia icon to run GME99.

Do I have to install Disc 2?

If you are using the Deluxe (2-CD) edition, you do not need to install Disc 2. If Disc 2 is required, you will be prompted to insert it after clicking the Change Discs button.

Do I need to remove earlier versions of the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia (GME) before installing the 1999 GME?

GME99 is a brand new product that is a full replacement for earlier editions. If you have an earlier edition of the GME, you can uninstall it from your system. However, it is possible to maintain both versions on the same system should you so desire.

How do I uninstall the GME99?

Windows 98, 95, or NT Workstation 4.0:

GME99 can be uninstalled from Windows 98, 95, or NT by going from the Start button on the Taskbar to Programs, Grolier Interactive, choosing the 1999 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, and clicking the unInstallShield icon. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the uninstall process.

Most versions of the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia can be removed from Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0 by going from the Start button on the Taskbar to Settings, Control Panels, Add/Remove Programs, selecting the version of the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia you wish to remove, and then clicking the Add/Remove button.

Windows 3.x:

GME99 can be uninstalled from Windows 3.x by double-clicking the UnInstallSHIELD icon located in the Grolier Interactive program group. You will be prompted to completely uninstall the application, choose Yes to uninstall the GME99.

What is QuickTime for Windows(R) and does this need to be installed?

QuickTime for Windows(R) is used by the GME99 to play all multimedia associated with the program. A QuickTime initialization failed error will occur if the version of QuickTime necessary for the GME99 is not found. For Windows 98, 95, and NT 4.0 users, a 32-bit version of QuickTime 3.0 is installed as part of the GME99 installation. For Windows 3.x users, a 16-bit version of QuickTime 2.12 is installed during the GME99 installation.
