| USA TODAY November 13, 1998 Top CD encyclopedias smart and slick Grolier pulled out all the stops for this year's encyclopedia. The interface is much improved: There's a larger viewing area and a larger "media preview" page, which offers thumbnail views of the artwork available for the entry. It's a snap to navigate and search for topics. A key feature is "double-click" access to the dictionary: Double-clicking any word brings up a definition from the 250,000-word American Heritage Dictionary. The atlas contains more than 1,200 maps, with information on resources, history and weather. Another highlight is the 360-degree panorama feature. More than 100 famous locations, such as the Colosseum, Stonehenge and the Great Wall of China, are displayed in a full-circle wraparound view. Grolier is No.1 in schools, for good reason. It's perfect for junior high to high school students. Copryright (c) 1998, Tom Ham. All Rights Reserved. Back to GME Reviews |
